A Child’s First Steps

Kindergarten's growth opportunities

We tailor our Kindergarten programme for children aged 4-5 years, blending the best educational philosophies and frameworks. Rooted in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the National Quality Framework (NQF), our curriculum is finely tuned to nurture each child's holistic development. Drawing inspiration from the Reggio and Montessori philosophies, we encourage hands-on exploration and self-directed learning, fostering curiosity and creativity.

Our programme seamlessly integrates elements of the 1st-year primary school curriculum for NSW and VIC, ensuring a smooth transition to formal schooling. Through a balance of structured activities and child-led experiences, we provide a rich learning environment that promotes social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. At Little Scribblers, we lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning success.

Have you heard about vision screening?

We provide complimentary School Readiness Vision Screenings for all children prior to the start of the school year.

Children rarely complain of eye problems, which is often because they do not realise they cannot see well and therefore are unaware of the problem. Occasionally, a child may have exceptional vision in one eye while the other eye has poor vision. A vision exam will detect these conditions.

Vision problems in children that go undetected can cause school and daily life difficulties, so it is essential to have your child’s vision examined before they begin school. Typically, the sooner a vision problem is detected, the more effectively it can be treated.

Our qualified Orthoptist will conduct a thorough vision and ocular examination on your child that goes beyond the standard preschool distance vision examination. This evaluation includes:

  • Visual acuity (single-eye examination of vision clarity)
  • Ocular movements and binocular vision (the degree to which the eyes move and function together)
  • Normal colour perception (colour perception aptitude)
  • Pupils and ocular appearance are evaluated

There are no eye drops used during examinations, and they are tailored to the individual capabilities of each child. Children who have not yet begun or mastered letter reading are given specialised assessments.

Kindergarten is a time of belonging, being, and becoming:

Belonging

Belonging is at the heart of our kindergarten experience. It's about fostering connections with family, community, culture, and the environment. Through meaningful relationships and a supportive atmosphere, children develop a strong sense of identity and security, laying the groundwork for a fulfilling life.

Being

Being in kindergarten means embracing the present moment. It's a time for children to explore, play, and engage in activities that bring them joy and fulfillment. With the freedom to be themselves, children develop confidence, resilience, and a love for learning.

Becoming

Becoming is the journey of growth and development that unfolds in our kindergarten classrooms. As children navigate this transformative period, they begin to shape their sense of self and forge their path in the world. Our programme empowers children to explore their interests, discover their strengths, and cultivate the skills they need to thrive in school and beyond.

Empowering growth in Kindergarten

In our Kindergarten class for children aged 4-5 years, we prioritise holistic development, encompassing social, emotional, and cognitive growth.

Rooted in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and inspired by Reggio and Montessori philosophies, our approach fosters a nurturing environment where children can thrive. Socially, children engage in collaborative activities, building friendships, and learning to communicate effectively. Emotionally, they develop resilience, self-regulation, and empathy through hands-on experiences and meaningful interactions.

Cognitively, our programme promotes curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. We encourage children to ask questions, explore their interests, and make connections with the world around them through enquiry-based learning and open-ended exploration. By intertwining these principles, we empower children to become confident, compassionate, and lifelong learners.
